Just a reminder for those of you in the area or within driving distance that this Saturday, March 28, 2015, friends of Roger and Karen Herrbach will host a benefit fundraiser called “Hugs for the Herrbachs”. |
The event will be held at the American-Hellenic Cultural Center, 17760 Behner Rd (Exit 4) in New Buffalo MI from 3pm to 11pm. Entry is $10 per person for great food, fun, friendship and music. Credit cards will be accepted.
Karen and Roger are both battling cancer and heart disease. Both diseases are expensive and their household has been hit multiple times. Proceeds from the event will go toward their hospital expenses, treatments, medications, and related expenses.
Roger is a lifelong resident of New Buffalo and a graduate of New Buffalo High School. He has been a plumbing contractor in the New Buffalo area for more than forty years, having learned the plumbing trade from his father and mother, Lew and Virginia Herrbach. He has been a frequent partner with Kevin Von Ehr of New Buffalo.
Karen, who grew up in Michigan City IN, spent many years as one of the friendly clerks at Buffalo Drugs and as a parking valet at the Four Winds Casino, and received special commendations for her customer service. Karen and Roger have been married 42 years and have two children, Noah and Meghaan (Schmock) and two grandchildren.
The doors will open at 3pm on Saturday with music from Dan Moser and special guests, along with a buffet of finger food.
Generation Gap, led by Mark Smith, will play from 5 to 7 pm. A dinner buffet will be available, featuring popular items from local restaurants and great homemade specialties, including some Greek foods.
From 7pm to 9pm, Hired Hands, led by Bob Bowen, will play an eclectic blend of original songs, country music, and rock & roll. The Brence Jackson Band will complete the evening from 9pm to 11pm, and desserts and light food will again be available. Be sure to wear your dancing shoes!
Special musical guests will jam with the groups and play and sing between sets. Among them will be longtime New Buffalo resident and Three Oaks alumni Allan Blazek , affectionately known as Lard-O or Blaze. Blazek’s band The System was well-known during the 1960s and 70s. Blazek went on to win a platinum album as engineer for The Eagles’ album “Hotel California”. He also engineered long list of albums for The Who, Glenn Frey, REO Speedwagon, Dan Fogerty, J.Geils, Johnny Winters, and Melissa Etheridge, among others.
