(July 13, 2002) The area code for southwest Michigan changed from 616 to 269 beginning today. Depending on your location, this change may affect the way you currently dial a call to New Buffalo. The phase-in period for the new code runs until Feb 13, 2003 – so calls placed using area code 616 will still work until then. Cell service is managed under a different system and may or may not be impacted by this change. The best bet is to ask the people you know who have the cell phones if their number is changing.
