New Buffalo Alum Ed Putzke's son Mike won the cross country state championship for the second time in three years on Saturday (11/3/01) at the Michigan International Speedway. Putzke was an easy winner while posting a career-best time of 15:48.70. Mike, who won his third straight regional crown a week ago, also won the state Class D title in 1999. He was eighth at state last season.

Also running for New Buffalo were some familiar names: Peter Blumberg, Bob Sprental, Dustin Borglin, and Chris Prusa.

Mike's also represented the state of Michigan in the Mideast Meet of Champions on 11/17/01.
