Patricia Handley – New Buffalo High School Class of '65

Patrica's life long ambition to become a nurse was realized after graduating from NBHS – receiving her Nursing Degree from Holy Cross in South Bend in 1968. She worked at St. Anthony's in Michigan City for about a year but (along with some of her co-workers) got a case of wunderlust and headed west. Not making it past the Rocky Mountains, Patricia and friends worked at a large Hospital in Denver. Patricia advanced her education and became a Nurse Practitioner.

In 1975, Patricia married Dr. Marvin Swanson, and Air Force Officer and OB-GYN. The Air Force provided the travel plans this time, and she left for England – spending three years at RAF Lakenheath (home of "The U.S. Air Force's Statue of Liberty Wing"). While there, she worked as a Nurse Practitioner, took to the ski slopes of the Italian and French Alps (to satisfy her passion for skiing – discovered in Colorado), and gave birth to her first child, Elizabeth (1978).

Then it was back to Denver. Second Child, Derek, came along in 1980. Then more traveling as her husband advanced his career as a Reproductive Medicine Specialist (test tube baby guy). First Louisville, then Baltimore, then back to Louisville, and finally to Ames Iowa (home to Iowa State University).

Patricia is going back to school (Iowa State) to follow through on a former interest – journalism. She keeps busy working and doing makeup for the Ames Iowa Actor's Theatre (some of you will recall she was a charter member of the NB's Gateway Players). Patricia and hubby, Marvin are in the last 8 years of their careers and look forward to moving back to Colorado.

She remembers her days at NBHS fondly and surprisingly enough, now lives a mere 100 yards from fellow NB Alumni, Paul Sosnouski.
