John McNeill New Buffalo High School Class of '70
John graduated Phi Theta Kappa from Lake Michigan College, transferring to Western Michigan University in '72, where he earned both a BA and MA. While
there he coordinated the effort to put WIDR-FM, a student radio station on
the air in 1975. It remains on the air to this day. Between degrees he
worked briefly in Television, before returning to his first love, radio.
John has worked the West Michigan radio scene with stints at WLMC, WSJM, WIDR, WMUK, WKFR, and WKZO before becoming Kalamazoo News Bureau Chief for Midwest Radio, which includes four stations in the Kalamazoo Battle Creek Market, Including WNWN AM & FM, WFAT and WTVB. He writes, produces and anchors newscasts. His peers consider him the "Dean" of Kalamazoo newscasters.
John met his second wife, Marsha, while on location for a news story,
and says it was love at first sight.
